Bakbakan na! Pres. Duterte has finally spoken up amid Dengvaxia fiasco

On Tuesday, December 12, the Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque made known to public the stand of President Rodrigo 'Rody' Roa Duterte regarding the country's by far the biggest fiasco of the year: the Dengvaxia vaccine.

According to the Presidential Spokesperson, the President is supporting the intention of the Department of Health (DOH) to ask for a full refund from the French pharmaceutical company Sanofi-Pasteur, the maker of the anti-dengue vaccine.

In a press briefing, he said “He has promised that after investigation are — has been or have been conducted both by the Senate and the Department of Justice — that he will run after all individuals who may have criminal culpability for this”.

In their recent public disclosure, the giant pharmaceutical company announced that based on their latest data gathered from their further studies on the drug they made, they have observed that unless the person already contracted mosquito-borne disease previously prior getting inoculated with the Dengvaxia vaccine, it would not be advisable to administer such as it would lead to severe dengue.

Since the announcement was made by the drug-maker, the Department of Health has halted the program of the anti-dengue immunization which was initiated by the previous Aquino administration that was spearheaded by the then-health secretary Janette Garin.

Both the Senate and the Department of Justice are now conducting investigations separately on the supposed anomalies with the procurement of the said vaccine.
