PNoy refuses to respond to Duterte's remarks on SAF 44 anniversary; reasons he is yet to meet his counsels

Former President BS Aquino refused to respond to the statements that President Rodrigo Duterte gave as he met the families of the gallant Special Action Force (SAF) 44 in Malacanang Palace on the eve of the 2nd anniversary of Mamasapano operation.

President Rodrigo Duterte blasted his predecessor, former president Benigno Aquino III, for covering up details about the Mamasapano clash, including US involvement in the ill-fated operation.

"It was an American adventure with the cooperation of some and apparently with your blessing...You fed [SAF troopers] to the lion's den..."

“And why was it under wraps? Bakit ninyo tinago na iyon was an operation of the CIA?” Duterte said.

“Kaya far from the highway, nandoon ang chopper and you had to delude the nation that after the Marwan finger was cut, it was delivered dito sa Crame [police headquarters] for the forensics, when as a matter of fact, ang helicopter, ang nagdala doon sa just for validation, to confirm that it was indeed Marwan.”

(That's why far from the highway, your chopper was there and you had to delude the nation that after the Marwan finger was cut, it was delivered here in Crame for the forensics, when as a matter of fact, your helicopter was the one that brought it just for validation, to confirm that it was indeed Marwan.)

Duterte accused Presidential Peace Adviser Teresita “Ging” Deles of stopping then President Benigno Aquino III from ordering the military's air assets to support the beleaguered police commandos in Mamasapano.

“And ma’am, si Deles, I do not want to, you know, belabor. Ikaw ‘yung peace negotiator. And para sa akin, ikaw ‘yung nagpigil kay PNoy na huwag because war will breakout, because then you have violated the agreement that you should not enter MILF territory," Duterte said before the loved ones of the fallen commandos.

While Marwan was killed in the said operation, it also claimed the lives of the 44 gallant SAF troopers.

They were killed because PNoy didn't allow to send reinforcements because that would have violated the ongoing ceasefire as part of the peace negotiations with the moro rebels.

President Duterte also admitted that he had personal knowledge of the botched operation because he was present at the command conference with Aquino and Roxas in Zamboanga City, right after the massacre. Apparently, Aquino instructed Roxas to ask Duterte to join the meeting at the Edwin Andrews Airbase, as he was incidentally in the city.

“Wala ng pakornihan, I was there to campaign. But you knew my presence, you requested Roxas to call the police to contact me to go to [Edwin] Andrews Airbase. Then you requested me to be brought to command conference,” Duterte said in a speech in Malacañang, addressing Aquino.

Duterte said he was in the area to campaign when Aquino called for him. He heard Aquino ask a military general for advice on what to do about the situation, which he said irritated him.

Duterte said as the command conference was ongoing, it appeared that it became clear to Aquino and then Interior Secretary Manuel "Mar" Roxas what happened in Mamasapano.

He said, the two went out of the room at least four times to discuss what he presumed was a sensitive matter.

“By the way, nung nandoon tayo sa command conference, you went back and forth sa kwarto na maliit,” he said. “Hindi naman tayo bata eh. Hindi rin ako mag-ano, you know I’ve been trained to watch the demeanor of persons.”

“Every time they went out I could see in your faces the – I cannot describe - ayaw kong insultuhin kayo but I could sense that something really, really bad happened.”

Duterte said, he was particularly pissed by one of the reactions of Aquino in the command conference with regard to the Mamasapano carnage.

“Umupo ka tapos sinabi mo sa general, ‘Kung ikaw ang nandoon ano ba ang dapat gawin?’ You know Mr. President, I will not characterize your behavior, but you have noticed that I just stood and I said, ‘Mr. President, medyo hilong-hilo pa ako sa byahe, can I beg the indulgence to leave?’” Duterte said.

“Bakit? Patay na tapos may tanungin ka na isang general na anong dapat mong gawin kung nandoon ka? I’m really sorry to say, I’d be honest and you can criticize me for this -- this is a democracy and you can also -- I was really pissed off. Sinenyasan ko si Bong [Go] sabi ko umalis tayo dito.”

He ended his tirade about the Mamasapano tragedy by asking PNP chief Director-General Ronald Dela Rosa to see if the 44 slain SAF troopers should be awarded medals of valor and to create a commission to reinvestigate the operation.

In a report aired on TV Patrol this evening, BS Aquino refused to respond to President Duterte's remarks saying he is yet to talk to his counsels so that they could altogether craft a statement.

Former President Benigno "Noynoy" Aquino III will speak on Thursday to answer questions directed against him by President Rodrigo Duterte regarding the Mamasapano clash where 44 elite cops died two years ago.

"There were a lot of points 'no, raised in yesterday's speech [of Duterte]. So we just wanted to make sure of our reply. We've double-checked all of the facts. So I've been spending this morning, checking on those facts,” Aquino said.

“I'm meeting with my legal counsels this afternoon and we're crafting a statement for release tomorrow."
